Greater Richmond ARC

The Greater Richmond ARC was started back in 1954 by a small, dedicated group of Richmond-area families as a grassroots organization that is today known as the Greater Richmond ARC. Each year they work towards their mission of creating life-fulfilling opportunities for individuals with disabilities and touch the lives of more than 1,250 individuals.

In the summer of 2015, John Walker took over as the Greater Richmond ARC’s new President and CEO. He replaced Marshall Butler who was stepping down after almost four decades with the organization. As with any organization that is now under new leadership, there were a lot of changes. “There were a lot of things related to internal finance reporting, systems changes, just a lot of stuff that needed to happen,” said Walker.

Fahrenheit Finance Engagement

Through a variety of networking connections and resources, John Walker had become familiar with Fahrenheit and the capabilities of our team. “I had a good feel for what Fahrenheit could do and knew from talking to friends that they would be a very good resource for accounting and financial help,” said Walker.

As Walker got a few months into his role with the Greater Richmond ARC, he saw that he needed someone who could step in and play a leadership role as VP of Finance for an interim period until a permanent solution was found.

“I interviewed individuals from a couple of firms and all had good candidates, but Fahrenheit really impressed me. They had the availability that matched our needs in terms of the number of hours per week and I thought they would be a good fit from a skill set and culturally, they were what I was looking for,” said Walker.

As it turned out, John Walker’s intuition was correct, “Fahrenheit was a home run. There was a tremendous amount of work that needed to be done and Fahrenheit came in and played a leadership role, took ownership for getting it done, and we accomplished an amazing number of things…transformational types of things…in a period of several months, all while continuing to get the daily business taken care of accurately and on time,” said Walker.

During Fahrenheit’s time with the Greater Richmond ARC, they hired a new CFO. While the new CFO was getting up to speed, Fahrenheit was there to help. “Fahrenheit made the transition a whole lot easier because of what they were able to accomplish during the months they were here,” said Walker.

The project also included an accounting software upgrade, and while our time there is winding down, the Greater Richmond ARC knows that if the need should ever arise again, Fahrenheit will be there to lend them whatever support they might need.
