Trolley House Refreshments

In 2011, owners Scott Halloran and Michael Calkins merged their two separate vending companies together and Trolley House Refreshments was born. Since that time, they have grown in size and expanded their offerings to include not only modern vending programs, but also coffee and water service, micro markets, and catering services.

Owner Scott Halloran became familiar with the capabilities at The Fahrenheit Group through through our affiliation with the Virginia Council of CEO’s.  “After meeting Fahrenheit through VACEO’s, we invited the firm in over the years to have your team speak to our roundtable at Trolley House on a variety of topics, and, of course ran into several different Fahrenheit folks throughout the years at the VACEO’s annual retreats,” said Halloran.

Fractional CFO & Talent Acquisition Engagement

“As we were transitioning through our growth, we saw a need we couldn’t fill with our own folks and saw the opportunity to bring in someone on a fractional basis that we couldn’t do otherwise,” said Halloran.

When Halloran saw this need arise, he turned to Fahrenheit, not only because of their association with the VACEO’s, but because he was familiar with the reputation our team had delivering on similar engagement with other middle market companies. “I asked other business owners and everyone seemed to have positive feedback about Fahrenheit. Having talked to a variety of Fahrenheit folks over time, it was clear that the talent level was what we were looking for. These were experienced folks who had been around the block a few times and understood their particular part of the business and brought value to the table,” Halloran explains.

Trolley House Refreshments made the decision to engage us in several different capacities. First, they engaged one of our advisors to serve as their Fractional CFO, which he has been doing now for a year and a half. In this role, we manage and mentor the staff with monthly closing for their two companies and perform financial analysis and planning.

As CFO, we also helped them evaluate an acquisition opportunity that they moved forward on. “We devoted a lot of energy into an upcoming acquisition, and we closed on it in May,” said Halloran. “The Fahrenheit Group was a big part of that, and having someone from Fahrenheit at the table helping us evaluate was a big help,” said Halloran.

Because of the value we have added for Trolley House serving as CFO and delivering on a number of projects, Trolley House decided to also use our Talent Acquisition services when they were looking for a Controller. Our highly experienced Talent Acquisition Team is the best at what they do. “The person we were able to find, we wouldn’t have found on our own through advertising,” said Halloran. “This was a person who was gainfully employed, but Fahrenheit understood our need, the culture of our organization and sourced the right person for us,” Halloran explained.

“Our experience with Fahrenheit has been very positive. Fahrenheit has delivered on everything we’ve asked them to deliver on, but we also recognize this partnership is a two-way street. Fahrenheit can only be as good as the guidance they are given from the client, so as a client, you need to be involved in the process.”
