John Schmohl

Managing Director

John has over 25 years of finance experience working with emerging companies and focuses on preparing and advising companies for their future growth.  This includes developing business-specific strategic plans and financial models, leveraging them for growth. In short: translating strategic vision into operating results. John works with management to evaluate trends and metrics on the operating and financial sides of the business, providing leadership, strong business counsel, driving decision making, and delivering solutions.

Prior to joining Fahrenheit Advisors, John was most recently the Treasurer of a $4.5 billion asset bank, including a $65 billion mortgage servicing portfolio. Prior roles included leading the mortgage advance strategy and analytics team; establishing methods of valuation of commercial and residential mortgages, student loans, liabilities, derivatives and REO property; setting accounting policy and controls, establishing a strong risk management environment; delivering the monthly results and their implications to Executive Management; and presenting results to the Board of Directors.  John started his career with 8+ years as a CPA with Big 4 Accounting Firms.

Some of John’s current and former engagements include:

  • SVP, Head of Treasury of a multi-billion dollar thrift managing the ALM process, deposit strategy and analytics for the internet and branch banking and cash management
  • COO of a $100+ million, SEC registered REIT managing purchases and sales of assets, transition of servicing, and assessing risks and controls
  • SVP Finance of a $65 billion mortgage servicing portfolio leading the advance strategy and analytics,  monitoring and valuation of commercial and residential mortgages, student loans, liabilities, derivatives, and REO
  • CFO for a founder-led student loan company, doubling originations volume to become the 5th largest private student loan company in the US
  • CFO of a fast-growing, private student lending company, establishing capital markets, planning and reporting infrastructure, and leading funding efforts, including securitization of $270 million in private student loans
  • As CFO of a $10 billion credit card division of a Fortune 200 diversified financial services company, led fastest growing card segment, tripling in size while maintaining excellent credit risk
  • Led the initial long-term strategic planning process for a Fortune 200 Company
  • Recruited by Capital One to create and lead the finance team responsible for SEC, regulatory, asset backed security trust and tax reporting, accounting policy, and tax strategy
  • Managing external parties providing equity and debt capital and advising clients on capital needs, funding structures, and from whom, how much and when capital should be raised
  • Preparing pro formas and scenario analysis to develop goals and assist in valuation for a SaaS provider
  • Manage due diligence activities and prepare and participate in road show presentations for a marketing company
  • Acting CFO and Advisory Board member for several seed stage companies in software, marketing, and real estate services
