As a consultant, she brought to Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company the organization development expertise to increase and improve the company’s succession planning, talent management, and executive coaching processes. She ultimately led a team of OD consultants in revamping the employee survey and the department response plans.
As consultant to Rental Service Corporation, she singlehandedly assessed 500 individual locations to develop and implement a consistent system for selection, internal succession, management development, and retention for the incoming CEO.
As VP HR at Best Western International, a 60-year-old hotel membership association, Barbara’s partnership with the new CEO and the Executive Team resulted in a significant shift in the corporate culture as measured by the hoteliers’ satisfaction and employee engagement surveys. She led the organization’s charity arm, Best Western for a Better World, to its highest level of volunteer engagement and contributions. Her tenure at BWI also included the implementation of a cost sharing benefit strategy, a revamped compensation structure and a streamlined performance management system.
Barbara’s demonstrated results driven focus coupled with her flexibility and adaptability enables her to facilitate win-win solutions with disparate groups. As VP HR of WE Energies, the largest utility in Wisconsin, she successfully negotiated labor agreements with five different locals that improved both labor relations and company productivity. She successfully transitioned the traditional pension plan into a portable plan for current employees and executed significant cost savings measures for retiree benefits.
